I grew up less than 50 miles from Mammoth Cave and never visited it while I was a child. Now I do not know how much I would have liked it at the time, but definitely could have been a nice trip to have taken.

For those who don't know Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system in the world. Spanning more than 400 miles, in central Kentucky. So I saw just a miniscule amount of it but was fascinating none the less. Forged over millions of years by the water of the nearby river cutting through the rock to make a system of caves that we have yet to explore the entirety of.

There is also a ton of human history in these caves as well. Native americans occupied them for thousands of years leaving behind remnants that people have been able to piece together how they lived.

During the 19th century they did plenty of tours throughout the system, and sadly people had to leave behind their "mark" burning in their initials and words in the rock. This is why we cannot have nice things.

I hope everyone enjoys the pictures.
